Oh, it was so quiet, even for a rainforest. The she-wolf approached the two fallen logs cautiously, eying the land beyond the border scent. Someone had been here, and not that long ago. Maybe she had missed them by a day or so; the scent wasn't too stale. A fine morning mist and settled over every square inch of the place, wetting her paws and dripping on her back. She shook her fur.
Taking a deep breath, Renald let out a long and musical call, just as she heard others do. It was short and almost quiet compared to some, she realized, about to do it again when she took note; two calls? What, was she impatient, or stupid? Renald shut her mouth with a click, keeping her form fairly low and submissive, just in case.

Still Zenith had been their, checking the border like he was doing today. He watched over the logs as he padded softly. A sound rang through the forest and met his ears. Grinning he stopped, it was a howl, one calling for him. Moving quickly he brought up his pace and went to meet this stranger.
When he got close he stopped running and walked for a bit, showing he was calm and not in a hurry. He pushed his way through the bushes and met the other wolf. It was a female, he narrowed his eyes. "I am Zenith, Alpha of the Ceveren Pack." He was rough and straight forward when he spoke. "Who are you?"

As the Alpha approached, Renald's tail tucked between her legs, yet loosened as he began to speak. The sight of him didn't frighten her, no; she'd seen worse before. But did it matter? If she were a vile creature, no.
The long-legged, sleek she-wolf lifted her head, not daring a smile. "A pleasure, Zenith," she said, her voice mellow and cool. It was a quiet yet musical voice; similar to her howl, in fact. She took a moment to breathe. "I am Renald. I wish to join your pack, sir, if you would let me."

Zenith let his tail down, but only a bit, he calmed his voice, relizing it was no threat. "May I ask where you are from?" He knew he would be able to tell if she lied, so he had to make sure she wasn't a spy. He walked around her in a circle seeing what she would be good for. She had strong legs, was thin but still strong. If he did let her in she would make a great hunter he thought. "Also what do you enjoy doing? He needed to know what she was good at to help him place her in his pack.

"Elsewhere," she answered, motioning back towards the water. "I was born on an island not too far from here. There was a great storm," she said slowly, "that threw me out to sea. I followed the screams of man and found this place." The screams of man...that part wasn't exactly true, but she went with it. Renald's face gave nothing away. The honest truth; she didn't remember how she'd found the place.
Her eyes followed him as he circled her, feeling only slightly nervous. What did she enjoy doing? "I like to swim," she offered, shrugging. "I'm a good runner, I'm fast. I study men." As soon as she said so, she wished she hadn't. Renald's mouth snapped shut. "I...I...they are curious." She added quickly.

"hmm," was all he said as she told her story, honest enough. He stopped circling and looked towards the shore in Phantos land where the men would park their boats. "Men are different creatures." He moved around her again in a circle this time watching her eyes as they followed him.
"Still once they find the island, they can't leave, and they can't stay." He grinned remembering the tales of a group of men who came from a phantos wolf. This island was theirs, and no one could know about it, or stay on it.

The white she-wolf rolled her shoulders, sitting now. "Oh, yes!" She exclaimed, nodding. Her ears rose slightly, twitching. "They're violent and angry at first, and they don't eat or drink." Renald frowned, but her eyes had brightened. "But then they change. Their defiance caves in, and they..." her words faltered, and she slowly shut her gabbing jaw. You talk too much.
Quickly, Renald shook her head and changed the subject. "I...oh! I'm a good hunter, too. Not much of a fighter, but..."

Finally Zenith stopped walking in circles and sat in front of her. "Hmm, yes," he waited before going on, "still you wont see many men around here. He grinned, and made a point to look away into the trees like some sound or smell drew his attention, he hated men, all men.
"A hunter, yes." He remembered they didn't have many in his pack, and couldn't turn down a single one. "Yes I have dicided." he stood up, tail held high. "I will take you into my pack and you shall be a hunter." Then Zenith waited, seeing if she was okay with that and if she was ready now.

She nodded briskly at his comment, looking to the ground at he looked away. And when I do, she thought, I'll try and nab on. Renald half-listened to his comment, glancing at the Alpha as he spoke. It shouldn't be too hard. I'll have to find a place where they won't hear him, and then--
"Hunter?" She repeated, rising to her paws. "Oh, thank you," she smiled widely, acting as if she'd completely understood what he'd said. What about a hunter? You're a hunt-- I'm a hunter! She blinked with surprise. A rank so quickly! She mused. "Thank you," Renald repeated, kneading the ground with her claws. "You won't regret it, I'll do the best I can."

He didn't smile or really pay attention, "hmm, yes I supose you will." He turned and took a few paces back towards the camp, something was on his mind, but he really wasn't sure what it was. He had to get alone, but he couldn't now, he couldn't just leave this new wolf to wander.
"I guess I should show you to the camp then." He dipped his head and began at a light jog, still trying to pin point what was clouding his thoughts, why am I so out of it? He asked himself silently as the trees and plants flashed by, he shook his head to clear his thoughts, it didn't work well.

Renald watched him with a cocked head at his words, the way he brushed them away. "If you want to, I mean, I don't want to be a burden--" He left her then at a jog; at first Renald didn't follow. With a shrug, she did, catching up to him quickly but staying behind at his thigh. Renald let herself fall back past his tail a bit, her mind wandering.
"You don't have to," she said suddenly, "I mean, if you're not in the mood, I could explore on my own." She shrugged, shaking her pelt as she slowed her jog again, eyeing him.

He shook his head again, noticing the way he was treating her. "No, no don't worry I have to go that way anyway." He spoke calm and warm now, trying his best to not zone out. He looked back over his shoulder to her. Thinking of something to talk about, come on, you have go to learn to talk!
"So do you have any family?" Right after he finished the sentence he curse himself in his head, if she was joining the pack alone then something must have gone wrong with her family, or she didn't have one. He closed his eyes remembering the day his own father and brother died.

"Oh, well...if you're--" The question struck her, and she paused in her step. Her family. All dead now, she presumed. Again, the rainforest sounds began to disapear, one after the other. It was eerily quiet. Renald realized she was lettting him get too far ahead, shaking herself out of it and leaping to catch up; it didn't take very long, he hadn't been as far ahead as she'd thought.
"I...I used to," she said simply, keeping her voice level and even.

Zenith stopped in his path, "I'm so sorry," he had no idea what to say now, after he opened up that wound in her heart. "I know how you feel though." He sighed, remembering the day that small pup came running out into the forest, and his father's dieing words. He stood up again starting to walk slowly, why did I have to bring up family, that is hard on not only her but me too. He looked over his shoulder to see if she was coming as well.

"There's no need," she said quickly, shrugging as he stopped in front of her. I know how you feel. What words. What a sigh he'd heaved as he said them, it made her glance up to the sky in a begging sort of way. She wouldn't ask. She wouldn't dig. Renald wasn't the kind of wolf to dig.
"It's not so hard now," she said, following close behind. "I'm not as deeply affected as I used to be. I still wish I'd done something, but---" she paused with a wheeze, shaking herself. Too far, now. Too far in. "But it's all old times. How far is camp now?" Her voice was harsh and bitter, almost angry; she stopped and pulled her head back with surprise, cursing under her breath. "I'm sorry," she said with a deep intake of breath. "Excuse my tone. It was completely uncalled for, you did nothing to provoke it."
